JILL VAN DER HEIJDEN

Tangier is a place Jill has returned to time and again. First as a child, accompanying her mother to the tailor ateliers, and now for her own businesses, Jill Antwerp and Pursuit Femmes. Here is a perfect day in Tangier through Jill’s eyes.

How do you start the day?

At Cinema Rif, a charming old cinema in the Kasbah. The perfect spot to enjoy a mint tea, fresh orange juice and a traditional pastry while overlooking the square.

Where do you go after breakfast?

What’s lovely about Tangier is that it’s small and easy to explore on foot. I would suggest simply walking around and discovering the city. One place I like to visit is Les Insolites, a small bookstore with a great selection of books.

Lunch with a view?

Nord Pinus. You can eat, drink and even stay here. It offers breathtaking views over the sea dividing Africa and Europe.

The sun is setting, where do you go?

Villa Mabrouka. Once Yves Saint Laurent’s home, now a beautifully styled hotel. Ideal for a sunset cocktail.

Your favourite place for dinner?

Salon Bleu! The food is wonderful and the atmosphere feels truly authentic. Definitely my favourite.

A final tip when visiting Tangier?

A final tip when visiting Tangier?

Because Tangier is by the sea, it can get chilly after sunset. Bring your 246 blazer for the evening breeze.
